East Texas Golf Trip Cabin Near Wild Spring Dunes

Minutes from Cherokee Ranch and under an hour from Wild Spring Dunes, with 300 private acres, a hot tub and firepit waiting after the round.

300 private acres 7-acre stocked pond 6-person hot tub No platform fees

Most golf trips end in a hotel room next to the ice machine. This one doesn't.

Whispering Pines sits on 300 private acres in the East Texas Piney Woods, within range of four public golf courses — including Wild Spring Dunes, the new Tom Doak–designed course from the team behind Bandon Dunes and Sand Valley. Play in the morning, and come back to a private hot tub, a firepit, an outdoor kitchen, and enough bedrooms that nobody's on a pull-out couch.

It's a 5.0-star Airbnb in the Top 1% of homes nationwide. And when you book direct at pines-retreat.com, there are no platform fees — you pay less for the same stay.

The Courses

Four public courses sit within about an hour of the cabin, and no two of them play alike.

  • Wild Spring Dunes (Mount Enterprise, ~45 minutes) — The newest name in Texas golf, and a big one: an 18-hole Tom Doak design from Dream Golf, the team behind Bandon Dunes and Sand Valley. Public play on the full course begins September 8, 2026, walking-only, with a second course by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw already underway.
  • Cherokee Ranch Golf Club (Jacksonville, ~10 minutes) — The closest course to the cabin, right in town. A par-71 layout dating to 1936, and a regular host to regional tournaments.
  • Pine Dunes Resort & Golf Club (Frankston, ~25 minutes) — A genuine destination course in its own right, rated among the best in Texas by Golfweek and Golf Digest, tucked into the same piney woods as the cabin.
  • Peach Tree Golf Club (Bullard, ~30 minutes) — Two 18-hole courses on one property, Oak Hurst and Peach Tree, so a group with mixed handicaps has somewhere to play together.

A handful of smaller public courses — Woodland Hills in Nacogdoches, Birmingham in Rusk, Overton — round out the area for groups who want a different look each day.

A Golf Trip, Not Just a Cabin Near a Course

There's a difference between a rental that happens to be near a golf course and a property that actually works for a golf trip.

A golf trip usually means four to eight people, uneven schedules, and evenings that need somewhere to land after the round. Whispering Pines has the room for that — three bedrooms plus a loft in the cabin, and a private RV suite with its own bathroom and kitchenette for groups who want a little separation.

The outdoor kitchen and grill mean a group can cook a real dinner instead of driving back into town for one. The hot tub and firepit give the evening somewhere to go besides a hotel bar. And 300 acres of trails and open ground mean the day doesn't have to end when the round does.

Tournament weekends and buddy trips tend to run the full range, from a quick overnight to a longer stay built around two or three rounds.

Common questions

What to Know Before Booking

How far is Wild Spring Dunes from the cabin?

Approximately 45 minutes. Wild Spring Dunes' 18-hole Tom Doak course opens to public play on September 8, 2026, with tee times already available. It's walking-only, so plan a morning tee time and a relaxed drive back.

Is Whispering Pines a good fit for a golf group?

Yes. The cabin sleeps 6–8 across three bedrooms and a loft, and the optional RV suite brings capacity to 10 — enough for most buddy trips and tournament groups.

Which course is closest to the cabin?

Cherokee Ranch Golf Club, right in Jacksonville — about 10 minutes away. It's a par-71 course dating to 1936 and a regular host to regional tournaments.

Can a group play different courses on the same trip?

Easily. Cherokee Ranch, Pine Dunes, Peach Tree, and Wild Spring Dunes are all within about 45 minutes of the cabin, so a multi-day trip can include a different course each day without a long drive.

Is there room to relax after a round?

Yes — 300 private acres, a 6-person hot tub, a firepit, an outdoor kitchen, and a stocked pond for anyone who'd rather fish than golf the next morning. Nobody has to keep golfing to enjoy the trip.
